What to Look for When Buying a Printer
More efficient ways of printing on paper are a result of technological advancements. Computer printers have become the standard choice for businesses and individuals alike. Of course, you don't get the same quality of print from all of the printers available. Several types of printers on the market and different functions exist on them along with special features. Before purchasing a printer, you need to look at what each has to offer so that you can make an informed choice.
<h3>What You Should Consider</h3>
All business or personal Printers: Printers are able to wield a wide variety of functions. A business printer will probably require more functions than your home computer. For example, a business usually requires fast printing capability and high resolution. Higher resolution is usually required when printing pictures, graphs, charts, etc. If you a road warrior, you may want to spring for a portable printer.
<h3>Inkjet Printers</h3>
Inkjet printers are the primary printers in home use and in small offices. These are cheapder inkjet printers, however, they deliver quality performance and high-quality printing output. The down side to inkjet printers is the high cost of the printed page. It is not uncommon to find an inkjet printer costing less than a replacement set of ink cartridges.
<h3>Laser Printers</h3>
Laser printers, especially the monochrome printers, are normally used in businesses. They provide a higher speed and high quality resolution in printed text . Businesses are able to print a large quantity of documents in a short period of time. Laser printers cost more but are worth it, especially when you consider the cost per page. For example, my HP laser printer is nearly 15 years old. A toner cartridge costs about $80 and yields 4,000 pages or so. That is less than .003 per page. Colored laser printers are a bit more expensiveand you must have several toner cartridges.
<h3>Multifunction or All-In-One Printers</h3>
A multifunction printer, or all-in-one device is a combination of a printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine. Some users may find this more practical since they do not have to buy two or more separate devices and they require significantly less space. I went from an Hp Photosmart Printer to an all in one HP Officejet and I have regretted it. On the particular model I bought, the print heads and ink resevoirs are separate and are costly to replace. At this time, I am mulling over the purchase of a color laser printer.
<h3>Photo Printers</h3>:
The photo printers provide better quality photo printing. Although the ink cartridges tend to be more expensive and they usually contain an extra cartridge to provide the "neon" colors so popular these days, they deliver high quality pictures. For those who travel and use a laptop, the portable wireless printer is a good choice.
When shopping for a printer, the qualities you should consider are quality of print and construction, durability, and performance. The most popular brands include HP, Epson, Kodak, Lexmark, and Cannon. I personally prefer HP and that is what I have, though my wife has a Canon Pixma Multifunction printer. Check the specifications of each brand. If you intend to use the printer in a business, make sure that it will deliver the best performance, speed, and quality and cost per print.
Before you purchase a printer, do your research. Although there are cheap inkjet printers on the market, it isn't worth buying one if it does not deliver the performance you require. A printer is an important and essential addition to any computer. Whether it is for a business or personal use, knowing exactly what kind of printer you want will avoid buyers remorse.
