HP Inkjet Printers..Most popular Inkjet Printers

Inkjet printers are one of the most popular add-ons to a home PC.  HP inkjet printers are probably the most popular printers around.  There are many manufacturers of desktop printers, but the HP Inkjet printers (inkjet printers)  rank among the most popular of the inkjet printers.  I currently have two HP printers.  One is an HP laser printer purchased in 1995 and still going strong.  The other is an HP inkjet printer (all in one printer).  The reliability of HP desktop printers is unequalled by any on the market.  Over the years, HP has made several modifications to the various HP deskjet printer models but the main changes they have made have to do with increasing the resolution (Print quality.)  The only down side to Hewlett Packard desktop printers is the ink is not permanent and can fade over the years,  It is not waterproof and will run if wet.  Even so, I will still make my next desktop printer an HP Inkjet inkjet printer.

HP Inkjet Printers

An HP inkjet printer is a printer that places extremely small droplets of ink onto paper to create an image. If you ever look at a piece of paper that has come out of an HP inkjet printer, you know that:

• The dots are extremely small (usually between 50 and 60 microns in diameter), so small that they are tinier than the diameter of a human hair (70 microns)!
• The dots are positioned very precisely, with resolutions of up to 1440x720 dots per inch (dpi).
• The dots can have different colors combined together to create photo-quality images.
• As technology has evolved, the dots of ink have become smaller, giving a higher resolution output.

Photo printers can produce stunning photos from the PC hard drive or in most cases, the memory card from digital cameras.  The ink in inkjet printers is fairly standard, however, it is weak in the bright metallic or electric colors.  The photo printers solve this problem by adding a 5th or even a 6th cartridge.  It is the mix of these colors that produce such true to life photos.  In my opinion, the HP PhotoSmart printer is one of the better printers on the market.  There are many users that prefer the Epson printer also.  One thing a user should do is make sure he uses the paper and ink from the manufacturer of his printer.  The reason for this is these products are formulated for the print heads, droplet size, etc.  The coatings on the paper vary by manufacturer also..

A vast majority of inkjet printers connect to a personal computer via USB connection.  For those without a PC, the printer manufacturers have been offering stand-alone printers.  Kodak is perhaps the most notable of these.

Ink Jet Printers and Photos

In the 1990's, Hewlett Packard (HP) introduced a line of HP ink jet printers called PhotoSmart.  These HP ink jet printers were capable of producing extremely high quality images of near photo quality.  The printers used an additional ink cartridge with a neon type color that gave added brilliance to the image. 
It wasn't just the additional cartridge that lent brilliance to the image.  Most printer paper has high fiber content and when the jets spray wet ink onto paper some "bleeding" into adjacent areas occurred.  This gave the printed page a sort of fuzzy edge and simply did not look professional and also produced a poor photo.  Paper manufacturers started coating their papers, with the different formulating the coating for a particular inkjet printer.  The printer manufacturers rebranded this paper with their brand name.  Initially, these papers were $1.00 per page and more.  The finished product required time in order for the ink to dry onto the paper.  This is no longer the case as papers have improved and fallen in price.
Print quality of ink jet printer is rated in dots per inch (DPI).  The better HP ink jet printers have a resolution of 4800 DPI.

Ink jet printers, high quality paper and the digital cameras revolutionized the film industry.  Particularly hard hit was the Kodak Company.  They had to completely revamp their business model and began producing digital cameras as part of their product line.  They also produced ink jet printers and paper.  Because of their late entry into this market, they do not hold a large market share. That spot is enjoyed by the HP inkjet printers.
